New cookbook in memory of Cherry Starr features favorite recipes from her kitchen and from families of Packers players, coaches
Before her death in February at age 89, Cherry had come up with the idea for the cookbook as a new initiative to benefit childhood cancer research, a cause that was dear to her and Bart, the late legendary Packers quarterback to whom she was married for 65 years.
All proceeds from the book, which came out Tuesday, benefit the Bart & Cherry Starr Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Fund at Children’s of Alabama for bone marrow treatment.
NFL families come together to create a cookbook in memory of Cherry Starr
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WBAY) - The Starr Children’s Fund published “Cooking with the Starrs,” a cookbook filled with over 30 recipes from iconic football families in memory of the late Cherry Starr and her Starr Children’s Fund.
The cookbook features recipes from women of the NFL. The recipes range from traditional family recipes to game day specials, sweet treats and more.
Cousins Subs brings back initiative to support Bart and Cherry Starr fund

Oconomowoc high-schoolers raise $2,750 during Miracle Minute
OCONOMOWOC — Oconomowoc High School students raised $2,750 from a Miracle Minute just before the start of their football game against Waukesha West on Friday.
For one minute, Oconomowoc High School students passed around buckets in the crowd for football fans to donate money to the Starr Children’s Fund, benefiting pediatric cancer care and research. All of the money raised will go to the Starr Children’s Fund.

Buffalo Wild Wings partners with the Starr Children’s Fund
WAUKESHA — Buffalo Wild Wings has partnered with the Starr Children's Fund to raise money for pediatric cancer research. Through July 31, 10% of the bill will go toward the Starr Children's Fund if a customer mentions the fund to the server. The fundraiser started on May 15.
The locations participating in this fundraising program are the Sunset Drive in Waukesha restaurant and the 27th Street restaurant in Milwaukee.

Cherry Morton Starr, 89, passed away peacefully at her Birmingham home with her family and close friends at her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bart Starr (2019) and her son Bret (1988). She is succeeded by her son Bart Starr, Jr. (Elaena), grandchildren Shannon (Ryan), Jenny, and Lisa, and her six great-grandchildren (Bryan, Teddy, Violet, Dillon, Skyler, and Caden). She was a figurative mother to many more.

A new discovery in childhood cancer could be the next step in learning how to best fight and treat a challenging pediatric cancer. New research from Children’s Cancer Therapy Development Institute, funded by the Starr Children’s Fund and Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation, shows that cancer genes thought to be on at constant high levels might vary in being on or off depending on the phase of cell duplication. This pediatric cancer discovery, which has been published in Leukemia Research, creates more opportunities to learn critical subsequent information in the fight against cancer in children.
Targeting brain tumors in kids could help find better, less toxic drugs
In order to help kids with cancerous brain tumors, Jezabel Rodriguez Blanco has to cobble together grants from different foundations to fund her work.
Sometimes, it means looking up who the foundation was named after. Rodriguez Blanc, an assistant professor at Hollings Cancer Center at Medical University of South Carolina, has received grants from cancer foundations named for two legendary sports figures. One is from the V Foundation, founded by the late North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN personality Jim Valvano. More recently, she got a $100,000 grant from the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation and the Starr Children’s Fund, named for respectively the former Green Bay Packers coach and his star quarterback, Bart Starr.
